David Adams Richards

David Adams Richards is a Canadian writer and former member of the Senate of Canada. Appointed to the Senate in 2017, he served as an independent and later as a member of the Canadian Senators Group before joining the Conservative Party caucus in 2025. A prolific author, Richards is widely recognized for his fiction exploring the lives of working-class residents in New Brunswick's Miramichi region, often reflecting his Roman Catholic faith. He is a recipient of the Order of Canada and has won both the Governor General's Award and the Giller Prize for his literary contributions. He retired from the Senate in October 2025 upon reaching the mandatory retirement age.
