David Maclean, Baron Blencathra, is a British Conservative politician and life peer who currently serves in the House of Lords. He previously represented Penrith and The Border as a Member of Parliament from 1983 to 2010, during which time he held several ministerial roles, including Parliamentary Secretary to the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food and Minister of State at the Home Office. In 2024, he returned to the frontbenches as Shadow Minister for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs. Known for his long-standing career in the Conservative Party, he has been a prominent figure in parliamentary governance and policy, despite controversies regarding his expenses and legislative proposals during his time in the Commons.
