Deqa Dhalac

Deqa Dhalac is an American politician serving as a member of the Maine House of Representatives for the 120th District. A Somali emigrant who fled the Somali Civil War, she previously made history as the first African-born female mayor in the United States while serving as the mayor of South Portland, Maine, from 2021 to 2022. Dhalac holds master's degrees in policy and social work and has worked extensively in community services and interpreting. She is recognized as the first Somali-American to serve in the Maine Legislature.
