Derek Slap is an American politician, journalist, and businessman currently serving as a member of the Connecticut State Senate for District 5. First elected to the Connecticut House of Representatives in 2016, he represented District 19 until 2019, when he won a special election to join the State Senate. Throughout his legislative career, he has served as a deputy majority leader. Prior to his political career, Slap worked as a news anchor and reporter for WVIT and held various roles in communications and external relations, including positions with the UConn Foundation and local government.
