Elizabeth Guzmán is an American politician and social worker currently serving as a member of the Virginia House of Delegates for the 22nd district. Born in Peru, she immigrated to the United States and built a career in social services before entering politics. First elected to the House in 2017, she made history as one of the first Hispanic women to serve in the chamber. A progressive voice within the Democratic Party, Guzmán has championed legislation to repeal prohibitions on public sector collective bargaining and has advocated for paid sick leave for home health care workers. Throughout her career, she has also been a prominent figure in state and national Democratic politics, including serving as a co-chair for the Bernie Sanders 2020 presidential campaign.
