Erion Veliaj is an Albanian politician serving as the 42nd Mayor of Tirana since 2015. A former activist and leader of the civic organization MJAFT!, he previously served as a member of parliament for Gjirokastër and as the Minister of Social Welfare and Youth. Despite his electoral successes, his administration has faced intense scrutiny and corruption allegations, leading to his arrest and pre-trial detention in 2025 on charges of money laundering and corruption, which he denies.
