He has served as a member of the Bundestag representing the constituency of Ludwigslust-Parchim II – Nordwestmecklenburg II – Landkreis Rostock I since 2013. In his role on the Budget Committee, he serves as the rapporteur for the annual budget of the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Climate Action.
