Günther Albel

Günther Albel is an Austrian politician serving as the Mayor of Villach since 2015. A member of the Social Democratic Party of Austria (SPÖ), he previously served as a municipal councilor and as the First Deputy Mayor of Villach from 2012 to 2015. Before entering full-time politics, he worked as a civil registrar. His tenure as mayor has included managing local urban development and addressing significant regional challenges, including the 2025 knife attack in Villach. He has also faced legal proceedings related to administrative errors during the 2016 presidential election.
