George Santos

George Santos is an American former politician who served as the U.S. representative for New York's 3rd congressional district from January to December 2023. Elected in 2022, he became the first openly LGBTQ Republican elected to Congress as a freshman. His tenure was marked by significant controversy following revelations that he had fabricated much of his educational and professional background. Following an investigation by the House Ethics Committee and a federal indictment, he was expelled from Congress in December 2023. He later pleaded guilty to identity theft and wire fraud.
