Germinal Peiro is a French politician who has served as the President of the Departmental Council of Dordogne since 2015. A member of the Socialist Party, he previously represented the 4th constituency of Dordogne in the National Assembly from 1997 to 2017 and served as the Mayor of Castelnaud-la-Chapelle for over three decades. Throughout his career, he has been a prominent advocate for rural development, agricultural policy, and the preservation of the Occitan language. Beyond his political work, Peiro is a former competitive canoeist who achieved international success, including becoming a vice-champion of the world in mixed double canoe in 1981.
