First elected to the Playford Council in 2003 at the age of 19, he previously served as a councillor and deputy mayor before assuming the mayoral office in 2010. Throughout his tenure, Docherty has focused on urban development, including the creation of the Playford Health Precinct and the Stretton Centre, as well as promoting regional employment and infrastructure projects.
