Michiya Haga is a Japanese politician and former television announcer currently serving as a member of the House of Councillors. Born in Yamagata City, he spent many years as a prominent broadcaster for Yamagata Broadcasting, notably appearing on the popular program 'Zoom In!! Asa!'. He entered politics in 2019, winning his first term in the House of Councillors as an independent candidate supported by a coalition of opposition parties. Haga was re-elected in 2025 and subsequently appointed as the Chairman of the Committee on Oversight of Administration. He officially joined the Democratic Party for the People in December 2025. His policy positions include opposition to constitutional amendment and support for selective separate surnames for married couples.
