Throughout his career, Garg has held significant executive roles, including serving as the Minister for Social Affairs, Health, Youth, Family, and Seniors of Schleswig-Holstein from 2009 to 2012 and again from 2017 to 2022. He also served as the Deputy Minister-President of the state during those periods. A trained economist with a doctorate in political science, Garg previously led the FDP in Schleswig-Holstein as state chairman from 2011 to 2022.
