Himanta Biswa Sarma

Himanta Biswa Sarma is an Indian politician and lawyer currently serving as the 15th Chief Minister of Assam, a position he has held since 2021. A former member of the Indian National Congress, he joined the Bharatiya Janata Party in 2015 and has represented the Jalukbari constituency in the Assam Legislative Assembly since 2001. Throughout his career, he has held various cabinet portfolios, including Finance, Health, and Education. His tenure as Chief Minister has been marked by significant infrastructure development, including the expansion of medical colleges, alongside controversial policies regarding land rights, immigration, and the regulation of religious institutions.
