Hirobumi Niki

Hirobumi Niki is a Japanese politician and physician currently serving as a member of the House of Representatives and as State Minister of Health, Labour and Welfare. After graduating from the University of Tokyo and Tokushima University, he worked as a doctor at several hospitals before entering politics. Initially affiliated with the Democratic Party, he experienced several electoral cycles before securing his seat. In 2023, he joined the Liberal Democratic Party. Niki generally supports constitutional reform, including the inclusion of the Self-Defense Forces in Article 9, and has expressed support for selective separate surnames for married couples and the introduction of a quota system in politics.
