Elected as part of the 10th National Assembly, he represents the Labour Party. Osonwa secured his seat in the February 2023 general election, defeating the incumbent Deputy Speaker of the Abia State House of Assembly, Ifeanyi Uchendu, and other candidates. He emerged as a consensus candidate for his party prior to the election.
