
Irja Lutsar
Profile
Irja Lutsar is an Estonian microbiologist, virologist, and politician currently serving as a member of the XV Riigikogu. A professor of medical microbiology and virology at the University of Tartu, she has dedicated her academic career to the study of infectious diseases in immunocompromised individuals. Lutsar gained national prominence as the head of the scientific advisory board for the Estonian government's COVID-19 pandemic response from 2020 to 2021. She entered formal politics in 2022 by joining the Estonia 200 party and was subsequently elected to the parliament in the 2023 Estonian parliamentary election.
