James Delmas Libby is an American politician, college professor, and author currently serving as a member of the Maine Senate representing the 22nd district. First elected to the Maine House of Representatives in 1992 and the Maine Senate in 1996, he has maintained a long career in public service and academia. Libby is notable for being the first candidate in the United States to qualify for a gubernatorial campaign using clean elections financing. Beyond his legislative work, he has authored several books on history and politics and has served as a trustee for the Maine Community College System. He currently sits on the committees for Education and Cultural Affairs and Senate Conduct and Ethics.
