Born in Bentelo in 1959, he studied political science and public administration at Radboud University Nijmegen. Before his current role, he held various leadership positions in the healthcare sector, including roles at the Isala Clinics and Radboudumc, and served as a municipal councilor in Nijmegen from 1986 to 1995. He also worked as a civil servant for the municipalities of Arnhem and Enschede.
