Previously, she made history as the first woman to serve as North Carolina State Treasurer, holding the office from 2009 to 2017. Her extensive political career includes two terms on the Raleigh City Council and two terms in the North Carolina Senate. Before her executive roles, she worked in finance as an analyst for HSBC and Lehman Brothers and later led nonprofit organizations, including Girls Who Invest and the Dix Park Conservancy.
