Javier Loera Cervantes is an American politician serving as a member of the Illinois Senate for the 1st legislative district since November 2022. Born and raised in the South Side of Chicago, he attended Benito Juarez Community Academy before studying visual communications at the International Academy of Design and Technology and labor studies at the University of Illinois Chicago. Prior to his legislative career, Cervantes worked for the Service Employees International Union from 2006 to 2018 and served as a campaign manager for former State Senator Antonio Munoz.
