Gene Wu

Gene Wu is an American politician and lawyer who has served as a member of the Texas House of Representatives for District 137 since 2013. Born in Guangzhou, China, he immigrated to the United States as a child and eventually settled in Houston, Texas. Before entering the legislature, Wu worked as a prosecutor in the Harris County district attorney's office and as a private-practice attorney. In 2024, he was elected as the minority leader of the Texas House, where he has focused his legislative efforts on public education, juvenile and criminal justice reform, child welfare, and the protection of immigrant communities. He is known for his advocacy on behalf of minority populations and his active role in debates regarding redistricting and voting rights in Texas.
