Jean-Pierre Giran is a French politician and former academic who has served as the Mayor of Hyères since 2014. An economist by profession, he previously held the position of Dean of the Faculty of Applied Economics at Aix-en-Provence and served as a member of the French National Assembly for the Var department from 1997 to 2017. Throughout his political career, he has been associated with the UMP and its successor, The Republicans, and has held leadership roles in regional governance, including the presidency of the Toulon Provence Méditerranée metropolitan area. He is also a prolific author of numerous books on economic policy and political analysis.
