Originally a member of the Democratic Party, he served in the New Jersey General Assembly and the New Jersey Senate before his election to Congress. In 2020, he switched his party affiliation to the Republican Party. Throughout his career, he has held various local offices, including mayor of Dennis Township and Cape May County Freeholder. Before entering politics, he worked as a dentist for 30 years.
