Jeremy Cooney is an American politician currently serving as a member of the New York State Senate, representing the 56th district. Elected in 2020, he is the first Asian American to hold state office from upstate New York. Cooney chairs the Senate Committee on Transportation and the Subcommittee on Cannabis, focusing on infrastructure development, high-speed rail, economic revitalization, and housing affordability. Before his legislative career, he served as an aide to Congresswoman Louise Slaughter and as chief of staff to the Mayor of Rochester.
