Born in Quezon City, Philippines, she immigrated to the United States as a child and is the first Filipina elected to the California State Legislature. Her career includes serving as a policy advisor in the Obama Administration, a Commissioner on the Board of Public Works for the City of Los Angeles, and deputy chief of staff to California Attorney General Rob Bonta. She currently serves as the Assistant Majority Whip.
