John Fonfara is an American politician serving in the Connecticut State Senate since 1997, where he represents the 1st district covering parts of Hartford and Wethersfield. A member of the Democratic Party, he previously served in the Connecticut House of Representatives from 1987 to 1997. Throughout his tenure in the Senate, he has held key leadership roles, including serving as the chair of the Finance, Revenue and Bonding Committee. In 2023, he unsuccessfully sought the Democratic nomination for Mayor of Hartford.
