José Maldonado González

José Maldonado González was a Spanish politician and the final President of the Spanish Republic in exile. Born in Tineo, Asturias, he was a lawyer who became active in republican politics during the Second Spanish Republic, serving as a deputy in the Cortes and as a government official during the Civil War. Following the Republican defeat, he lived in exile in France and Mexico, where he held various ministerial positions before assuming the presidency in 1971. He formally dissolved the government-in-exile in 1977 following the restoration of democracy in Spain.
