Julia Brownley is an American politician who has served as the U.S. Representative for California's 26th congressional district since 2013. Before entering federal office, she served in the California State Assembly from 2006 to 2012 and on the Santa Monica-Malibu Unified School District Board of Education. A member of the Democratic Party, Brownley has focused her legislative efforts on education, veterans' affairs, and environmental protection. She is a proponent of the Affordable Care Act and has been a vocal advocate for reproductive rights and the development of alternative protein research. She is set to retire from the House of Representatives in 2027.
