Yasushi Kaneko is a veteran Japanese politician serving as a member of the House of Representatives, currently in his tenth term. Born in Kumamoto Prefecture, he began his career as a legislative secretary before being elected to the Diet in 2000. Throughout his tenure, he has held several high-level government positions, including Minister of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism and Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications. A member of the Liberal Democratic Party, Kaneko is known for his conservative policy stances, including support for constitutional amendment and opposition to the introduction of selective separate surnames for married couples. He has also served in various leadership roles within the party, including as head of the Youth Division and various committee chairmanships.
