A member of the National Party, he previously held the position of Deputy Leader of the Nationals from 2025 to 2026 and served as an assistant minister in the Morrison government. Before entering federal politics, Hogan worked extensively in the finance sector, including roles at GIO Securities and Colonial First State. Known for his focus on regional economic issues, he briefly sat on the crossbench as an 'Independent National' in 2018 to protest political instability before returning to the Coalition benches in 2019.
