Kgosi Letlape is a South African ophthalmologist, health care leader, and politician currently serving as a Member of the National Assembly. A pioneer in his field, he became the first black person in South Africa to qualify as an ophthalmologist during the apartheid era. Throughout his career, he has held prominent leadership roles, including President of the World Medical Association and chairman of the South African Medical Association. A dedicated health activist, he co-founded the Africa Medical Association and the Africa Harm Reduction Alliance, and notably collaborated with the Nelson Mandela Foundation to expand access to antiretroviral treatment for HIV-positive patients. He was sworn in as a Member of Parliament representing ActionSA in June 2024.
