He serves as a Member of Parliament for the Sylhet-1 constituency and holds cabinet portfolios as the Minister of Industries, Minister of Commerce, and Minister of Textiles and Jute under Prime Minister Tarique Rahman. Previously active as a business leader and advisor to the BNP chairperson, he entered politics in 2011 and secured his parliamentary seat in the 2026 election.
