A Republican, he was elected in an April 2025 special election to succeed Jenifer Branning. Prior to his legislative career, Taylor worked as an insurance agent for the Mississippi Farm Bureau and founded the Lane Taylor Auction Company in 2015. He is a native of Philadelphia, Mississippi, and currently resides in Neshoba County with his family.
