Before her legislative career, she worked as a deputy court administrator for Northampton County. First elected to the Pennsylvania House of Representatives in 1994, she has served in the State Senate since 1999. In 2023, she announced an affiliation with the Forward Party while maintaining her Democratic Party membership.
