Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is a Brazilian politician and trade unionist currently serving as the President of Brazil since 2023, having previously held the office from 2003 to 2011. A founding member of the Workers' Party, he rose to prominence as a metalworker and leader of the ABC workers' strikes during Brazil's military dictatorship. Throughout his political career, he has been a central figure in Brazilian left-wing politics, known for implementing social welfare programs like Bolsa Família that aimed to reduce poverty and inequality. Despite facing significant legal challenges and imprisonment related to corruption charges—which were later nullified by the Supreme Federal Court—he returned to the presidency after defeating the incumbent in the 2022 general election.
