Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva

Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva is a Brazilian politician and trade unionist currently serving as the President of Brazil since 2023, having previously held the office from 2003 to 2011. Born into poverty in Pernambuco, he rose to prominence as a metalworker and leader of the ABC workers' strikes during the military dictatorship. A co-founder of the Workers' Party, Lula has been a central figure in Brazilian politics for decades, known for his left-wing policies, social welfare programs like Bolsa Família, and efforts to reduce poverty and income inequality. Despite facing significant legal challenges and imprisonment, his convictions were later nullified, allowing him to return to the presidency in 2023.
