Lutfur Rahman is a British politician currently serving as the directly elected Mayor of the London Borough of Tower Hamlets. Born in East Pakistan, he moved to the United Kingdom at a young age and began his career as a solicitor. Rahman previously served as the leader of the Tower Hamlets Council and was the first directly elected mayor of the borough from 2010 to 2015. After a period of debarment from office following an election court ruling in 2015, he returned to politics by founding the Aspire party and winning the 2022 mayoral election. His political agenda has focused on social housing, universal free school meals, and the protection of frontline public services.
