Before her election to Holyrood in 2021, she served as a councillor for the City of Edinburgh and held the position of Rector at the University of Aberdeen. Chapman is a self-described socialist and environmentalist who has advocated for policies including the living wage, participatory budgeting, and social justice. She currently serves as the Rector of the University of Dundee.
