Marco Chiesa

Marco Chiesa is a Swiss politician who has served as a member of the Council of States since 2019 and as president of the Swiss People's Party (SVP/UDC) from 2020 to 2024. Born in Lugano in 1974, he graduated with a degree in business administration from the University of Fribourg and previously worked as a tax advisor, banking expert, and retirement home manager. His political career includes serving on the municipal council of Villa Luganese, the Grand Council of Ticino from 2007 to 2015, and the National Council from 2015 to 2019. In his political stance, he is closely aligned with the conservative wing of his party, advocating for stricter immigration controls and changes to Switzerland's bilateral treaties with the European Union.
