Eva Herzog is a Swiss politician representing the canton of Basel-Stadt in the Council of States since 2019, having previously served as President of the Council for 2023–2024. A member of the Social Democratic Party, she studied history, economics, and Spanish at the University of Basel and the University of Santiago de Compostela, earning her doctorate in history in 1994. Before transitioning fully into national politics, she held management roles in arts administration, worked as a scientific collaborator, and served in the Grand Council of Basel-Stadt as well as the Executive Council heading the finance department.
