Marie-Claude Varaillas is a French politician serving as a Senator for the Dordogne department since 2020. A member of the French Communist Party, she made history as the first woman elected to the Senate from Dordogne under the Fifth Republic. Before her national parliamentary career, she worked in municipal administration for many years and served as a departmental councilor for the canton of Isle-Manoire, where she also held the position of vice-president in charge of housing. She currently sits with the Communist, Republican, Citizen and Ecologist group and serves as a vice-president of the Senate's Committee on Regional Planning and Sustainable Development.
