Masaaki Taniai is a Japanese politician serving as a member of the House of Councillors, representing the Komeito party. Born in 1973, he holds a master's degree in agricultural economics from Kyoto University and previously worked in international humanitarian aid, including projects in Angola and Afghanistan. Since his first election to the Diet in 2004, he has held several key positions, including Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and State Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries. Currently, he serves as the Chairman of the Komeito Central Secretariat and Chairman of the Komeito House of Councillors Caucus. His policy interests include agricultural reform, international humanitarian support, and the promotion of SDGs.
