Before his election to the state legislature, he served on the Horicon Town Board and as the town supervisor, as well as president of the Adirondack Association of Towns and Villages. A business owner for over three decades, Simpson operated his own drywall company prior to his full-time political career. He grew up in Bolton, New York, and is a graduate of Hoosic Valley High School.
