Matthias Berger

Matthias Berger is a German politician and lawyer currently serving as a member of the Landtag of Saxony. Born in 1968 in Grimma, he previously served as the mayor and later Lord Mayor of Grimma from 2001 to 2024, gaining national recognition for his crisis management during the 2002 European floods. Although he ran as the lead candidate for the Free Voters (Freie Wähler) in the 2024 state election, he remains politically independent. In December 2024, he unsuccessfully stood as a candidate for the office of Minister-President of Saxony.
