Mazie Hirono is an American politician serving as the junior United States Senator from Hawaii since 2013. Born in Japan and raised in Honolulu, she is the first Asian-born immigrant elected to the U.S. Senate and the first female senator from Hawaii. Previously, she served in the U.S. House of Representatives from 2007 to 2013, as the Lieutenant Governor of Hawaii from 1994 to 2002, and in the Hawaii House of Representatives. A member of the Democratic Party, Hirono is known for her progressive stances on reproductive rights, education, and judicial nominations.
