Patrick Connor Schmidt is an American politician currently serving as a member of the Kansas Senate representing the 19th district. Raised in Overland Park, Kansas, he earned a bachelor’s degree from Tufts University in 2013 and previously served as an intelligence officer in the U.S. Navy and U.S. Naval Reserves, including work at the Pentagon. Motivated to enter politics by the January 6 United States Capitol attack, he ran for the U.S. House of Representatives in 2022 before winning his seat in the Kansas Senate in 2024. In office, he has advocated for property tax relief while opposing legislation that would restrict gender-affirming care and limit the use of preferred pronouns in schools.
