Michael Howard is a British politician and life peer who currently serves as a Member of the House of Lords. He previously held several high-profile cabinet positions, including Home Secretary, Secretary of State for Employment, and Secretary of State for the Environment under the governments of Margaret Thatcher and John Major. From 2003 to 2005, he served as the Leader of the Conservative Party and Leader of the Opposition. A barrister by profession, Howard was a Member of Parliament for Folkestone and Hythe from 1983 until 2010, when he retired from the House of Commons to enter the House of Lords.
