A member of the Republican Party, he previously chaired the House Committee on Homeland Security and served as the chair of the House Foreign Affairs Committee. Before his congressional career, McCaul worked as a federal prosecutor and a Deputy Attorney General in Texas. He is known for his focus on national security, cybersecurity, and foreign policy, including strong advocacy for military aid to Ukraine. McCaul has announced he will not seek re-election in 2026.
