A member of the Republican Party, he previously spent 11 years as an advisor to Governor Rick Perry. During his legislative tenure, Schofield was named 'Freshman Legislator of the Year' in 2015 and successfully drafted a constitutional amendment to ban income tax in Texas, which was passed in 2019.
