Mircia Gutău

Mircia Gutău is a Romanian politician currently serving as the Mayor of Râmnicu Vâlcea, a position he has held for multiple terms since 2004, with a significant hiatus between 2010 and 2016. Born on April 27, 1957, in Țibeni, Suceava County, he worked in the industrial and commercial sectors before entering local politics. Throughout his career, he has been associated with several political parties, including the Romanian Ecologist Party, and is currently affiliated with the Social Democratic Party (PSD). His tenure has been characterized by extensive urban modernization projects, though it has also been marked by legal challenges and corruption investigations, including a 2010 conviction that was later overturned by the European Court of Human Rights in 2018. He was most recently re-elected to his fifth term as mayor in 2024.
